What is Mangal Dosh?
Mangal Dosh is traditionally said to be present when Mars (Mangal) occupies certain houses — commonly the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th — counted from the ascendant, and often also checked from the Moon and Venus. Mars is a fiery planet, and its placement in these houses is associated with friction in married life.
It is not the whole story
Classical texts list many conditions under which the dosh is reduced or cancelled — depending on the sign Mars occupies, aspects from benefic planets, and whether both partners carry a similar Mars influence. A chart labelled "Mangalik" by software may, on careful study, carry little real dosh.
