A gemstone that is looked after keeps its lustre — and its setting stays secure — for many years. Here are simple habits we recommend to every customer.
Cleaning
- Soak the ring for a few minutes in lukewarm water with a drop of mild soap.
- Clean gently behind the stone with a soft toothbrush, rinse, and pat dry with a soft cloth.
- Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach and ultrasonic cleaners — especially for pearl, coral and emerald, which are softer or more sensitive.
Everyday wear
- Remove your ring before heavy work, gym, swimming or household cleaning.
- Put perfume and cream on before wearing the ring, not after.
- Have the prongs checked once a year so the stone does not loosen.
Storing
Keep each piece in a separate soft pouch. Harder stones such as diamond and sapphire can scratch softer ones like pearl and coral if they are stored together.
Purification tradition
Many families follow the tradition of purifying a stone before first wearing it and on special occasions — for example by dipping it in Ganga jal or raw milk and chanting the mantra of its planet. Your astrologer will advise the right day and mantra for your stone.
If a stone develops a crack or loses its colour, show it to us before continuing to wear it.
